Kuantan, Pahang's
bustling capital beside Sungai Kuantan, is
situated about midway up
the East Coast. The commercial
centre of town is dominated at one
end by Wisma Sri
Pahang, the main State Government
offices, and at the other by the Teruntum Komplek.
Facing the tree-lined padang
on Jalan Mahkota are some of Kuantan's earliest
buildings;
the colonialstyle Courthouse and
the JKR Building. Old-style shophouse line
Jalan Besar
up to the Bus Station.
Around here are a number of handicraft shop specialising in
locally
produced batik. Behind the Bus
Station, and running alongside Sungai Kuantan, is a long
walkway shaded by palms, a
garden, picnic area and children's amusements at
the Jalan
Tanah Puteh end. Also flanking
the river are a number of food stalls serving local cuisine.
Other town
attractions include the Hindu Temple on
Jalan Tanah Puteh, Buddhist
Temple on Jalan Bukit Setongkol
and Jalan Bukit Ubi, and the Stadium
Darul Makmur.
Take Jalan Teluk Sisek out
of town and follow Jalan Dato Abdullah
to Taman Gelora
at Tanjung Api, where there
are a lotus lake, food stalls and
shaded picnic areas beside
a long sandy beach. Futher
along Jalan Teluk Sisek is the Taman Seni Budaya,
a cultural
centre, and on Jalan Teluk
Chempedak is the home of the Menteri Besar(Chief
Minister)
overlooking the Royal Pahang Golf Club. Turn
right at the golf course for Taman Teruntum,
a jungle park with a mini
zoo and picnic facilities.
Pahang Buddhist Association
Situated only 3 kilometres from Kuantan.
Taman Gelora
at the way to the Telok
Chempedak Beach, It is
popular for evening strolls,
and has a huge water lily pond.
The main shopping complexes
in town are Berjaya Megamall,
Kuantan Parade
and Kompleks Teruntum.
The State
Mosque built in 1991 at
Jalan
Mahkota, Its Four
minarets stabbing the sky majestically.
Telok Chempedak
Beach is just five kilometres
from the town
centre. Jalan Teluk Sisek
is the road leads to the beach,
the
most popular hotels are located
here, for example Hyatt
Ktn,
several outdoor seafood restaurants,
hawker stalls, trinket stalls
can be found along the beach front, for example
Restoran
Pattaya.
There is a Royal
Golf Club along the road to Telok
Chempedak.
This club will appeal to
the sportsman with its challenging 18
hole course and scenic seaside view. Golf
reservation can be make
through the hotels. There
is a children's playground just across
from the Golf Course. A
special area of the ground has
been
made into a children's driving
school.
Teluk Chempedak
is an excellent beach for activities like sailing,
surfing, skiing and sunbathing.
A short jungle trek through the
Teluk Chempedak Forest Reserve,
is idyllic Pelindung Beach. If
you are game for more
jungle trekking, there's an alternative
route, leading to the mini-zoo.
The village of Beserah,

km north of Kuantan, offers
spotless,
secluded beaches. Enter a world where time has
stood still, where
villagers plough their paddy
fields with buffaloes, and fishermen
transport their catch to ice
factory by buffalo carts. Excellent
buys include salted fish,
keropok (prawn or fish crackers). shell
handicrafts, batik, and items
weaved from mengkuang leaves.
Several budget guesthouse comprise the accommodation
available.
Pekan-The Royal Town
While Kuantan is the administrative
capital of the state of Pahang, Pekan
is its Royal
capital. Places of interests
include. The Royal Place, The State
Museum and the Silk
Weaving Centre.
SUNGAI PANDAN WATERFALLS
A popular holiday spot, these
falls consist of eight cascading repids
and cool pools for
awimming. Covering an area of 11 hectares,
the falls are just 25km from Kuantan, accessed
along an eight-km section of
laterite road.
A drive along the sungai
lembing way will lead you to a
limestone cave surrounded by
old rubber trees. A flight of
stairs will greet you as you approach
the cave's entrance. On
entering the cave, bats flutter
overhead sending a chill down your
spine. Come face to
face with a giant statue
of the sacred Reclining Buddha, measuring
10 metres long.
SUNGAI LEMBING
About 48 kilometres from Kuantan
is Sungai Lembing, an old mining town
where the
deepest load mining in the world
was once very active. Historical
relies of European
architecture can still be seen
at every turn.

Cherating Village
and Beaches
Drive 47km north
of Kuantan on the new coast road
to this famous stretch of beach,
the location of
Club Mediterrance.
The Club is set
in its own grounds of lush tropical
vegetation, right on the beach, with
a refreshing view
of the South China Sea.
CENDOR BEACH
This is an exclusive
beach, just 47km from Kuantan, where
the giant leatherback turtles
come to lay their
eggs between early May to October.
